Despite the ongoing activity across the UAE skies, golfing life continues, and the community spirit around the game remains strong.
After a fantastic Captain’s Day at Emirates Golf Club on Saturday, hosted by Scott Campbell and Sonal Gandhi, we were up early on Sunday morning to host the 6th Dugasta Race to Desaru qualifier at The Els Club Dubai, on Sunday 8th March 2026.
With a 6:40am start, 72 players competed for the five divisional places that will represent The Els Club in the National Final at Al Zorah Golf & Yacht Club on May 9th, 2026.
Those winners will then have the chance to represent the UAE at the World Amateur Golfers Championship in Desaru, Malaysia, an incredible experience featuring 8 nights, 6 rounds of golf and evening events alongside more than 500 golfers from over 45 countries, one of the largest amateur golf series in the world.
The divisional winners were:
Division 1 – Christopher Cornwall – Net 71
Division 2 – Carl Saunders – Net 70
(Thomas Wylie recorded the best round of the day with a Net 69, however as he is under 18 he cannot represent The Els Club in the final.)
Division 3 – John Milne – Net 72 (beating Murray Leslie on countback)
Division 4 – Felix Famira – Net 79
Division 5 – Catherine Hut – Net 70 (beating Fiona Fox-Gmuer on countback)
Sponsor Division – Shoab Khan – Net 70
A big thank you to our sponsors who joined us for the presentation, including Imran Skhawat, Bryan Moulds and Steve Payne, and to Martin O’Neil and Alex Doig for their support in getting the course branding in place early Sunday morning.
Next stop: Al Hamra Golf Club this Saturday, a great chance for a mini golf staycation.
